"The tyres are the vehicles only contact with the road, the area of contact is small and, if worn, will not grip properly and safely. The quality of the tyres on a vehicle is an important factor in the vehicles road holding and braking ability. Drivers should check their tyres regularly and if they notice that a tyre is badly worn, they should replace it immediately. Whilst the minimum legal tread depth for tyres on most vehicles is 1.6 mm (1 mm for motorcycles), drivers should replace a tyre before it becomes this worn."
